Fabricly is a marketplace that brings together clothes designers and consumers – however the difference is that anyone can submit a design and thus become, and profit, from becoming a designer. Innovative social features allow the community to shape both the look of potential designs and the materials they are made from. This gives consumers the ultimate power to decide what is ultimately manufactured and what is not.
Consumers are now looking for more from their online shopping experience, especially with the emotional side of shopping. By having the power to decide whether a garment is made or not there is a real sense of ‘power to the people’, and subsequently a large amount of viral marketing. It is also a great marketplace for young up and coming designers who want to get access to a larger market.
Fabricly was founded in 2010 by Ari Helgason and Tom Riley, both seasoned entrepreneurs in the fashion industry, and is based in New York. Atomico has invested alongside Y Combinator in this deal.
