Jamie Murray Wells

Jamie is an Entrepreneur in Residence, helping entrepreneurs discover, and work with Atomico. He evaluates and assesses new investment opportunities, manages deal flow and works closely with portfolio management teams on their businesses, as well as conceptualizing and testing new ideas of his own.

Whilst still at university in 2004, Jamie founded Glasses Direct, the largest online prescription glasses store in the world, where he currently holds the position of Executive Chairman.  Despite early threats of legal action, and pressure on his suppliers from high street chains, Jamie fought to fully establish Glasses Direct in the market, and now it is now quickly becoming a household brand name. The company ships a pair of glasses every few minutes round the clock, and estimates that it has saved the UK public in excess of £40 million pounds on their glasses.  Accolades for his work building Glasses Direct, include the CBI Growing Business, Shell Livewire, and Esquire Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

Outside of the office, Jamie advises both major political parties on their new enterprise strategy; comments and writes on enterprise and current affairs for national newspapers and broadcasters; and is a volunteer for the Prince's Trust. In 2009 the Prime Minister recommended that the Queen recognise his work helping others, with her Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion, which is given to those who inspire entrepreneurialism.
